Shady Grove Garden Project

Get involved with Carthay Center Elementary School! Improve your
gardening knowledge! The asphalt has been ripped out, and the ground is
ripe!
Saturday and Sunday, November 15 and 16, we will be planting
Strawberries, Raspberries, Grapes, Onions and Garlic. We'll also be
improving and adding to our existing gardens, including transplanting,
amending soil, trimming, installing drip irrigation, and even pouring
concrete to install a new Garden Bulletin Board.
The Los Angeles Conservation Corps will be assisting with the planting
of sixteen Cassia Leptophylla (pictured) on the 16th.
This is a chance to personally improve Carthay Center Elementary
School. We need team leaders as well as garden hands. And
gardening experience isn't necessary - there will be experts on hand to
teach us.
Please email Teresa Dahl,
Friends of Carthay Center Garden Chairperson, to volunteer, learn more, or
to find out other ways you can help this garden grow.

There’s
a lot going on with the Carthay Center PTA! If you
have not joined the Carthay PTA, please do. Membership is only $7 per
person and forms are available in the front office or the Parent Center
and on this website. PTA raises money for expenses related to school
field trips and other educational and academic needs at Carthay. And
every expenditure is approved by PTA members, so you are part of the

children at Carthay! For more info, please contact
Maira Gomez , PTA Vice
President and Membership Chairperson.
Coffee with the Principal
Sponsored
by the Carthay PTA, Coffee with the Principal is an opportunity for
parents to sit down with Principal
Gwen McGee to discuss school issues. It is always a stimulating
session, with great questions and answers. Please join us for this once a
month event! The next Coffee with the Principal will be on Friday,
October 17 at 8:30 AM in the Cafetorium.
