Carthay wins funding for Urban Greening Project
Carthay Center Elementary School has been selected as one of the three case study sites and has been awarded Prop 84 funding from the State's Strategic Growth Council. The goal is to develop the school site into a Community School Park which will feature the latest sustainable land & water management design features. The process includes outreach to and feedback from Carthay Center School teachers, staff, students, parents, and neighborhood community members. Prop 84 funds are intended to create, enhance, or expand community green spaces while improving air and water quality and providing other community benefits (such as community access after school hours or on weekends). Urban Greening Projects are required to provide public access and/or educational features and are highly valued when they demonstrate innovation and improve community health, as well as address environmental justice issues.
